83% of Statistics are made up

Well last nights result was a bit of a hammer blow, Leicester losing 2-1 in the last minute to Reading and looking back at my prediction I could have been guilty of only seeing one side of the argument. I tend to find when im making selections that I focus on the stats which favour my side of the argument and skim over the others. I even acknowledged the fact that Reading are in form yet I still opposed them, I think my own ego and stubbornness to be right is my downfall. Its only after the event I realize that I could have made a better judgement on the match based on the facts and form of both teams. Oh well, enough of the psychology lesson and back to football.

Chelsea walloped a sorry Portsmouth last night and it looks like David James is coming into some form for the World Cup!?! As I have mentioned before the state of Englands defence is a huge worry for me, Ashley Cole injured, Rio has back problems which has interrupted his season constantly, John Terry with all his personal problems and lack of form, Glen Johnson has only just come back from injury and all of the backups players lack top class experience.

Now Calamity James is back on the scene! His confidence must be shot to pieces as well playing for Portsmouth all season, shipping goals left right and centre. Does Fabio Capello stick by him or risk playing Joe Hart? Also the insipid recent performances of Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard for their club sides just compounds my optimism for South Africa 2010, the one shining light is Wayne Rooney.. Could he win us the World Cup single handedly?

  1. Wouldn't worry about James or Hart. Robert Green is inked in by Capello. I like Hart myself, but it's too big a risk ( for a manager ) to go into a World Cup with a new keeper.

  2. I agree Rob, Green would be a better choice than both.
